How to do Hair System Maintenance & Service [Step by Step]

Scalp Preparation

Hair system maintenance & servicing at home needs some bit of practice and effort. Before attaching your hair replacement system, it's essential to prepare your scalp properly for a strong, lasting bond. Follow these steps:

1. Clean: Ensure both your scalp and the hair system base are completely free of oil and adhesive residue. Use cotton pads or kitchen roll (not toilet paper) to remove old adhesive. A fine-tooth comb can help with stubborn residue.

2. Shave: Closely shave any hair on the scalp where the system will be applied.

3. Cleanse: Use a face mask to cleanse your scalp.

4. Wash: Wash your scalp and any remaining hair with a mild, SLS-free shampoo.

5. Dry: Make sure your scalp is thoroughly dry.

Attaching Your Hair System

Bond with Tape

- Tape: Ideal for those who remove their hair system frequently. Daily wear tape is great for daily removal. For a longer hold, try Ultrahold, Supertape or Air Flex, which can last 3-4 weeks. You can buy these products from Yalla Hair Salon

- Application:

1. Apply tape to the perimeter or entire base of the system.

2. Position the front of the system on your scalp and carefully roll it back.

3. Press firmly to secure it.

- Maintenance: Lace systems should be removed and cleaned every 5-10 days to prevent adhesive breakdown.

Bonding with Adhesive

- Liquid Adhesive: Offers a strong bond, like Ultra-Hold or Ghost Bond, which is gentler on the skin.

- Application:

1. Apply a thin layer of adhesive to your scalp and the underside of the hair system.

2. Wait until both surfaces are dry (approx. 5 minutes).

3. Position the system and press down firmly.

- Lace Front Systems: Follow the above steps but apply adhesive to the front hairline separately after positioning the system.

Removing Your Hair System

- For Skin Bases: Lift an edge and spray adhesive remover. Let it soak for 1-3 minutes, then gently peel off the system.

- For Lace Bases: Spray Lace Release on the area, wait a couple of minutes, and gently lift the lace.

Cleaning Your Hair System and Scalp

- Scalp: Use adhesive remover or baby oil to soften residue. Wipe clean with kitchen roll and shampoo to remove all traces of adhesive.

- Skin Bases: Spray adhesive remover, wipe off residue, and shampoo. Finish with isopropyl alcohol before re-bonding.

- Lace Fronts: Use the ‘mirror slide’ technique to remove adhesive from lace by sliding it over a mirror. Clean the mirror afterward and repeat until clean.

Hair Care Tips

- Shampoo & Condition: Use SLS-free, paraben-free products. Wash twice a week and always follow with a UV protection spray.

- Brushing: Gently brush with a wide-vent brush, especially when hair is wet. if you use narrow-vent brush or comb it may damage your hair system.

- Deep Conditioning: Once a month, use a deep-conditioning treatment. You can buy Yalla Hair Serum from or Salon.

Colour Care

- Protection: Use color protection shampoo and conditioner. Apply Yalla Hair Serum regularly and consider wearing a hat in the sun.

- Re-colouring: If your hair fades, you can safely re-color it using leave-in color treatments.
